School History
Udaya Higher Secondary School, located in the serene rural surroundings of Hosangadi, Manjeshwar in Kasaragod district, has a rich and inspiring history of growth, transformation, and commitment to quality education.
Founding Years (1984)
The school was founded in the year 1984 by Mr. Raghav, a visionary educator who believed in the power of education to uplift rural communities. With humble beginnings, the institution started as a private school serving the educational needs of the local population. It aimed to provide basic education to children from Hosangadi and nearby areas where access to good schooling was limited at the time.
Under Mr. Raghav's leadership, the school gradually expanded its academic offerings. Over the years, it added upper primary, high school, and eventually higher secondary sections, growing into a full-fledged educational institution. However, like many rural schools, it faced challenges related to infrastructure, resources, and administrative support.
A New Chapter: Catholic Board of Education Takes Over (2012)
In a major milestone in its history, Udaya School was officially handed over to the Catholic Board of Education, Diocese of Mangalore, on March 31, 2012. The handing-over ceremony was held in the presence of Bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, representatives of the Catholic Board, and the school community.
With the Catholic Board taking charge, the school came under a well-established network of educational institutions run by the Diocese of Mangalore, known for their high standards, discipline, and moral foundation.
The vision of the Catholic Board of Education is:
“An Enlightened Society for a Fuller Life.”
This vision became the guiding force for Udaya School, marking a new era focused not just on academics, but on holistic education that nurtures values, leadership, and personal growth.
Transformation and Progress (2012 – Present)
After the transition in management, Udaya Higher Secondary School witnessed remarkable improvements in its academic environment and physical infrastructure:
Well-equipped classrooms with digital boards and smart learning tools
Improved laboratories, library, and computer facilities
A renewed focus on character formation, discipline, and leadership
Increased student strength and enthusiastic community support
One notable achievement came in June 2024, when the school became the first in Kasaragod district to conduct digital school leader elections using EVM technology, a pioneering step towards promoting democratic values among students.
Under the dynamic leadership of its present principal, Mr. Jerald Ivan Crasta, and the spiritual guidance of the Catholic Board, the school continues to grow in both strength and vision.
